You decide whether the original photo is revealed at the end or not: by default, the person only receives the picture to paint, never the image.

The three typical mistakes when gifting it (and how to avoid them)
- Choosing too high a difficulty. If the person has never painted by number, a 1,300-zone Expert can overwhelm rather than excite. Easy or Medium for beginners; they'll try a harder one next time.
- A photo that doesn't hold up to conversion. Dark, blurry photos, or ones where the subject is far away produce confusing pictures — and in gift mode the person doesn't know what they're painting, so a confusing picture loses the magic of the reveal. - Forgetting the dedication. The picture surprises, but what gets remembered is the final message. Two honest lines are worth more than a generic paragraph.
What if I want a physical gift?
The finished picture can be downloaded in high resolution with no watermark: some people print and frame it (alone or as a diptych next to the original photo), some put it on a mug or a cushion through any print-on-demand service, and some print a frame from the half-painted timelapse — half drawing, half photo — which turns out to be surprisingly decorative.
