Account and devices

What's the difference between painting as a guest and with an account?

As a guest you can create 1 free picture and paint it, but it's only saved on that device. With a free account (email or Google) you can create as many pictures as you like, your progress syncs across devices, and your first guest creation is kept when you sign up — you don't lose it.

I lost my pictures when I switched phones — can I get them back?

If you created your pictures with an account (not as a guest), they sync automatically and will appear when you sign in on the new device. If you created them as a guest, they were only saved on the original device: create an account before switching phones so you don't lose them.

I forgot my password — how do I recover it?

On the sign-in screen, tap "Forgot your password?" and enter your email. You'll get a link to choose a new one. If you signed in with Google, you don't have a password of your own to recover — use the Google button directly.

Signing in with Google isn't working — what should I do?

Try closing and reopening the app or browser, and check your internet connection. If you have several Google accounts on the device, make sure you pick the right one in the account picker that opens. If it still doesn't work, sign in with email and password instead.

My pictures don't show up on my other device

Sync happens automatically once you open the app signed in, but it can take a few seconds on a poor connection. Check that you're signed into the same account on both devices (not as a guest on one of them) and that you have a connection.

How do I delete my account and my data?

From Settings → Account you can export your data or delete your account for good, in line with GDPR. Deletion removes your profile, your synced creations, and your original photo if you uploaded one. It can't be undone.

Creating a picture

Why did my picture come out confusing or with too many tiny zones?

It's almost always the photo: if the subject is small in the frame or the background is very detailed, the result suffers. Crop the photo so the subject fills the frame, and look for good light and contrast. There are examples and tips in which photos work best.

Which difficulty should I choose?

Easy has large zones, ideal to get started or paint quickly; Expert has 1,300+ zones and the closest match to the photo. Medium is the recommended balance for a first try. Full guide in how to choose difficulty.

What's the difference between multitone and flat colors?

Multitone fills each zone with the real average color from the photo (closer to a photograph). Flat colors uses one uniform color per zone (more of an illustration look). It doesn't change the number of zones, only the finish — you can try both with the same photo.

As a guest, how many pictures can I create?

As a guest you can create 1 free picture to try it out. To create unlimited pictures, create a free account — no card, no payment needed.

I get "No connection to the server" when generating

Check your internet connection and try again in a moment; it's usually a brief drop. If it persists with a stable connection, our server may be having a temporary issue — write to us and we'll look into it.

Painting

A tap paints zones it shouldn't — is that a bug?

Each number forms one continuous zone: a tap only paints that connected zone, never separate zones of the picture. If you see something odd, try reloading the app; if it persists, tell us, describing the photo and difficulty level used.

I ran out of hints — what do I do?

You can watch a short ad to get 3 more hints, or wait for your free daily hint (with an account) from Rewards. You can also keep painting without using any hints: they don't block the rest of the picture.

I can't find a very small zone to paint

Use zoom (the + / − buttons or a two-finger pinch) to get closer; at high difficulties some zones are tiny. The hint (💡) also centers your view on a pending zone of the color you have selected.

Is my progress saved automatically?

Yes, every painted zone saves itself. You can close the app and pick up exactly where you left off, on the same device or another one if you have an account.

Special modes

What is levels mode?

You choose 4 photos and the app deals them out at random across the four difficulty levels. Only the first one starts unlocked; completing each level unlocks the next. More in levels mode.

How do I paint together with another person?

When generating a picture, choose "paint together": a room is created with a code to invite the other person. The picture is split between the two of you and each paints their own zones in real time, without overlapping. There's also relay mode, where the turn passes from one to the other. Full guide in painting together online.

How does gift mode work?

You prepare a picture with a special photo and a dedication, and send the link to whoever you want to surprise. That person paints the picture without seeing the original photo, which is revealed zone by zone until it's complete. Ideas in personalized gift ideas.

What is the Rewards section?

It's where you collect your free daily hint, complete weekly missions, and unlock cosmetics (frames, titles, palette styles) just by playing — all free, nothing to buy.

Sharing your work

How do I watch the timelapse of my picture?

When you complete a picture, a timelapse of how it was painted, color by color, plays automatically. You can watch it again, download it or share it from that creation's final screen.

Can I download or share my finished picture?

Yes, from the final screen you can download the image in high resolution (no watermarks) or share it directly using your device's share sheet.

Privacy and data

Is my photo private?

Your photo is processed only to generate the picture and is not stored on our servers; the original is saved only on your device. It's only shared anonymously if you voluntarily turn on the option to help improve the algorithm from Settings → Privacy. More detail in the privacy policy.

What data do you collect and why?

Only what's needed for the account and sync to work, plus analytics/advertising if you give consent — you can manage or withdraw it anytime from Settings → Privacy and cookies. We never sell your data.

The app

Can I install Color Memories as an app on my phone?

Yes. From your browser, look for "Add to Home Screen" (or the app's own Install button in Settings), and you'll get an icon like any other app, without going through any app store.

I don't see the latest updates, or something looks off after an update

Fully close the app and reopen it; if it's still the same, force-refresh (in the browser, reload without cache). The web app updates itself in the background as soon as a new version is available.
